WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING...
Claire Curry, CESMT (Equine Bodyworker)
“I have been a student of yoga for about 10 years.  I've had some outstanding teachers on my path and some not so wonderful ones as well.  I found the Zenyasa studio when a facebook friend sent me a link to the Anatomy Studies for Yoga Teacher's Jason teaches.  I believe that a strong base of knowledge helps to be more skillful in practice, so I was intrigued.  I contacted Jason and set up a private yoga session to explore Zenyasa and talk to him about the Anatomy course.

From the moment I walked into the bright, sunfilled studio with it's gleaming hardwood floors and soothing color scheme, I felt at home.  I felt peaceful and easy with the opening Gassho practice and it set a tone for everything that followed.  The meditation allowed me to become fully present in the moment.  The practice is skillfully put together to provide a balanced mental, physical and emotional experience.  Jason provided excellent instruction and appropriate adjustments to my alignment.  Even better, he was able to share his knowledge and experience from his extensive study of Anatomy to give me real feedback for the WHY's of the adjustments.

I was HOOKED on Zenyasa and Jason's unique style.  I've continued to study with him and the wonderful group of  teachers that are part of the Zenyasa studio's staff.  I love the 5 element theme of the class and am getting more familiar with the Meridian systems in my body and how to strengthen the energetic body through asana.  This is a beautiful practice and I am so happy to have found it.”

“Jason Brown's Zenyasa Yoga has raised the bar for what a great yoga experience is and can be!
Jason is the real thing.  He knows a huge amount about yoga, our bodies, and meditation. He has a kind and cheerful aura about him. His class is invigorating and builds strength (which is what I need) as it also builds flexibility. He is uncannily able to manage a class with all levels attending.  The size never exceeds 15 and there is a warm connection and recognition amongst all the students. Good yoga teachers need to be extremely practiced, informed, intuitive and highly sensitive to proper technique. He is all those things.”

Sande H. says...
“Zenyasa is for the person who wants to explore yoga in a mindful way. Zenyasa is for the person who wants to feel tranquility through the practice of meditation and kindness through the practice of honoring  each element of life. In fact the practice is based on the 5 elements of traditional Taoist Chinese medicine--earth, metal, water, wood and fire. The postures and exercises within each class are related to this elemental theme and help to restore the flow of Qi to balance our beings. Also to get a hard-core work out! Our Teacher, Jason Brown, takes his position with great responsibility and respect. He has helped me to bring mindfulness into my practice and into my daily life.”

Heloisa D. says...
“Zenyasa is a new approach to yoga. It goes beyond body and mind. We practice recognition, honor and appreciation for our place of practice, each other, the teacher and all there is out there. It follows by 15 minutes of meditation. The Asanas are a work out of strength and stretches developed according to the meridians to activate the flow of energy in the body. Savasana is also a time to contemplate on Zen philosophy. And we end with a beautiful practice of service. Jason is extremely knowledgeable, intuitive and sensitive. His classes are small in size and fun, without competition, but with choices for all levels. His students are friendly and warm and they share a mutual connection of respect. Jason's class is a true practice of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali.”

Jennifer B. says...
“Jason Brown and his very own style of yoga known as Zenyasa (brought to us by stroke of genius, spiritual depth and Jason's incredible insight into anatomy), is the most integrated, invigorated and inspiriting style of yoga you will find!  Zenyasa Yoga & Wellness Studio is a safe, cozy and invigorating haven.  I come here to "find myself" and connect with other beautiful people.  You must experience it!”

Nirina R. says...
“Zenyasa studio is a lovely intimate studio where each time my practice feels like a rebirth for me. Thanks to the Zenayasa studio, I am building a very deep and solid foundation for my Yoga practice, including both strengthening and stretching exercises, in a systematically alternated way to ensure a balanced practice over time. I also feel that I am enriching my personal and family daily life thanks to the meditation practice, we have at the beginning of each class, and how we are helped to develop and cultivate in us the mindfulness: Jason does that with art and knowledge. Zenyasa is really special and unique: I like  how teachers transmit their knowledge about postures (with an insight into anatomy), the variations and options, depending on your abilities to avoid any injury. I consider as a very nice life gift to have met Jason, and now the studio sangha, as a beginner (maybe advanced beginner now) in Yoga. Everybody in the studio is so considerate and respectful. You should seize the opportunity and enjoy one of the best Yoga class in the city!”

Chad Martin (Consultant, Aperio LLC)
“Zenyasa is a great mix of meditative and athletic.  You'll sweat through strengthening and stretching exercises based in vinyasa practice, as well as feel mentally relaxed from the mediation practice. The classes are all based on the same structure, but on a rotating theme, so you're basically guaranteed variety within a certain framework, which is great for learning without getting bored. Those instructors that I've had so far are great, but owner and founder, Jason, is the most experienced.
The studio is small, so expect to be close to people if the class is full (15 max), but the Zen piece comes into handy with this (i.e., being neat and controlled).  The only place to change is a bathroom down the hall, so there is no fancy locker-room, but a few times going you get into an easy system.

Overall, it's great and more affordable than most places.  Between the practice-approach and the people, it's a great fit (for me, at least).”

Ruthie L. says...
“Zenyasa is an amazingly thoughtful integration of meditation and yoga and thorough knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology. Jason Brown is an insightful teacher with the skill of articulating instructions very precisely and clearly and with enormous goodwill. The studio is  small and sweet. It is a very creative and exciting studio that is a lovely gem in the tiara of NY yoga studios.”

Ariana Rabinovitch (Yoga Teacher & Graphic Designer)
“I came to Zenyasa by way of Jason's yoga anatomy class. He seamlessly  weaves together his knowledge of yoga, exercise science, anatomy, buddhist philosophy, massage, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is the synthesis I have been looking for. Even with all this knowledge and expertise under his belt, his classes are down to earth. I always leave class feeling strong, balanced and serene. I am hooked.”

Christopher S. says...
“I am a novice. I have tried many different instructors over the past year. No-one comes close to Jason. He is a great person and a great instructor. Being in his class is a tremendous experience that anyone who does yoga should try.”

Nicole T. says...
“I started taking classes Zenyasa with Jason Brown when he was at Pure Yoga. After he left to start his own studio, nothing at Pure was the right fit anymore, and I transferred over to his new little studio. It's an intimate & cozy space - the maximum is 15 students. There's no locker room, no sauna, no eucalyptus scented towels - but I prefer it over any other yoga studio because the style of yoga is so marvelous.

Classes are about an hour and a half long. We start off class with a bowing practice reminiscent of martial arts and then 15 minutes of meditation practice! Then we warm up our joints, and go into the movement practice.

It is one of the only practices I have found that has made me both stronger and more fit, as well as maintaining my flexibility. I really appreciate the meditation at every class. It was hard at first, and now it's probably one of my favorite things - a yoga class without it feels strange. Whenever I leave a class here, I feel centered, strong, relaxed, and happy.”

Langley Deaver Danowitz (Actor, Former Corporate Controller)
“Zenyasa Yoga, as taught by Jason Brown, is the most wonderful yoga experience I have ever had (and have tried many).  Jason's idea is that yoga is a mindful, healthful and athletic discipline.  Attending one of his 90 minute classes provides the yoga student an uplifting, joyful and freeing feeling  - deeply felt in the entire body and brain.  His cozy studio is on the 6th floor of an Upper West Side building.  Try it - the first class is free - and you will return again and again! “
